How should I report and track lost or damaged baggage?

At the airport:

Go to the airline's baggage service desk, usually located near the baggage claim area. The airline will create a PIR (Property Irregularity Report) and give you a reference number. Keep this number safe — you will need it to track your case and file any claims.

Do not leave the airport without filing a report. Most airlines require the report to be made on the same day as your arrival, and failing to do so may affect your ability to claim compensation.

Compensation:

Under the Montreal Convention, airlines are liable for lost, delayed, or damaged baggage up to approximately 1,300 EUR (or equivalent) per passenger on international flights. The airline may ask for receipts for essential items you had to purchase while waiting for delayed baggage, so keep all receipts.

Farera's role:

As a booking intermediary, Farera is unable to file baggage claims or intervene with the airline on your behalf. Baggage is handled entirely by the operating airline. However, we can provide booking documentation through MyArea if the airline requests it as part of your claim.

If you have travel insurance, check whether your policy covers lost or delayed baggage, as this can often provide faster reimbursement than the airline's claims process.
