My round trip came as two separate tickets

Some return trips are built from two one-way tickets rather than a single return fare. It's often how the lowest total price on a route is reached, sometimes with two different airlines, and it means you'll have two booking references, both shown in MyArea.

Airlines treat each ticket as an independent reservation, even though you bought them together. Each one follows its own airline's rules for changes, cancellations, delays and disruption, as set out in our Terms and Conditions.

Three things follow from that. If one airline cancels its flight, only that ticket is affected, and the other stays a valid reservation with nothing to refund. If a delay on the first ticket makes you miss the second, the second airline isn't responsible for the connection, exactly as with any separately booked flights. And changing one ticket doesn't change the other; each is handled on its own.

Check in separately for each ticket using its own reference, and we recommend leaving generous time between the flights, especially where bags have to be collected and re-checked.
